AIRGRO For Bio Filter Media

AIRGRO as bio filter media, is essentially a type of porous, recycled silica material often used as a substrate for beneficial bacteria to colonize in aquarium filters, essentially acting as a biological filter media due to its high surface area for bacteria growth and can be used as a cost-effective alternative in hydroponics and aquariums.

Key points about AIRGRO as bio filter media:

• Material:
Made from recycled silica waste, which is inert and provides a stable environment for bacteria to thrive.

• Porosity:
The structure of silica has many small pores and crevices, maximizing the surface area for bacteria colonization.

• Water retention:
Unlike some other bio media, AIRGRO can hold a good amount of water, which is important for maintaining a healthy bacterial colony.

• Applications:
Primarily used in aquarium filters to break down harmful ammonia and nitrite into nitrate through the biological filtration process.

How to adjust or change the pH

Soak for 24 hours with 5.5 pH adjusted tap or well water. For best results soak in a bucket where the amount of water doubles the amount of AIRGRO. After 24 hours, discard the bucket of water. Flush the AIRGRO with 5.5 pH adjusted tap/well water as a final rinse.

Place AIRGRO in your system with pH adjusted

Always soak and rinse your AIRGRO before using them. Soak them in pH balanced water and adjust necessary until they have a neutral pH.
